Economic Impact of a Medical School, Teaching Hospital, and Research Center in Austin

August 2012 – TXP was retained by Healthy ATX to assist in evaluating the current and potential economic impact of a medical school, teaching hospital, and research center on Central Texas. The impact of the combination of the medical complex and associated economic development in the life sciences translates into a total of almost $1 billion in direct annual spending and about 6,900 direct jobs. When the ripple effects are factored in, the impact rises to a total annual economic impact of about $2 billion in economic activity and 15,400 jobs in the Austin area.
