The University of Texas Board of Regents

Plans are in the works to create a new institution of higher learning in South Texas by combining the University of Texas-Pan American, The University of Texas at Brownsville, and the assets of the South Texas Regional Academic Health Center into one newly created emerging research institution – The University of South Texas (UST). TXP measured the total economic impact, taking into account the external economic environment and unique interrelationships inherent in the local economy. The combination of activity at the school’s operations and the ripple effects associated with each ultimately could account for about 7,000 jobs throughout the region.
